Few webtoons arrive at live-action with the kind of pressure The Remarried Empress is carrying. Close to three billion views worldwide is not a fanbase — it's an expectation, and Disney+ is answering it with exactly the cast this material demands. The series lands November 4, opening with four episodes at once before settling into a weekly two-episode rhythm through its November 25 finale, and it's already had its moment on the festival circuit with a world premiere set for the Busan International Film Festival in October.
The premise reads like a dare disguised as a divorce request. Empress Navier (Shin Min-a) has spent her marriage being everything an empress is supposed to be — composed, capable, politically flawless — and it still isn't enough once her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon), falls for a runaway slave named Rashta (Lee Se-young) and asks her to step aside. Navier doesn't fight for the marriage. She agrees to end it, on exactly one condition: permission to remarry Crown Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of a rival kingdom. It's less a heartbreak than an opening move, and the rest of the story is built on everyone underestimating how far she's willing to take it.

Why the Wait Has Been Worth It
The adaptation was announced back in 2025, and the gap between that announcement and an actual release date has been long enough that the fandom built up around the source material had plenty of time to speculate, cast their own dream picks, and brace for disappointment. What's landed instead is about as strong a cast as the property could have hoped for — director Jo Su-won, known for the visual polish of Pinocchio and Still 17, paired with four leads who each bring an established following of their own.
The teaser leans hard into the story's central tension rather than hiding it: Sovieshu vowing loyalty to a wife he's about to ask to leave, Navier composed and commanding rather than devastated, Heinrey already positioning himself as an alternative, and Rashta blissfully unaware of the storm she's stepped into. For a webtoon built on slow-burn political maneuvering as much as romance, that's exactly the right note to open on.
